At Thrive Speech Therapy Centres, our communication team is made up of registered speech-language pathologists (S-LPs) and communication disorders assistants (CDAs). Together, our S-LPs and CDAs support communication development at every stage—from first words to meaningful conversations. Since every child’s communication journey is unique, we build skills step by step through personalized, engaging practices that help each child thrive and reach their full potential. 

We provide assessment and intervention for:

Speech

  • ​Speech Sound Production - Helping individuals master specific speech sounds to improve intelligibility

  • Motor Speech - Targeted coordination and planning support for motor-based speech difficulties such as apraxia and dysarthria

  • Voice - Therapy to manage vocal strain, hoarseness, and pitch challenges while promoting long-term vocal health

  • Fluency - Building speech ease and confidence for individuals who stutter or clutter 

Cognitive Communication​

  • Planning, Organizing, & Prioritizing - Teaching practical strategies to break down complex tasks, manage time efficiently, and complete daily responsibilities 

  • Problem-Solving & Flexible Thinking - Helping individuals navigate unexpected changes, consider alternative solutions, and adapt to changing situations

  • Cognitive-Communication Skills - Supporting memory, focused attention, reasoning, and information processing to improve daily living 

Language

  • Late Talkers - Supporting early language development and encouraging first words 

  • Combining Words - Teaching children how to combine single words to form phrases

  • Vocabulary Development - Expanding the words a child understands and uses

  • Language Comprehension - Improving a child's ability to understand spoken language, routines, and directions

  • Grammar & Sentence Structure - Teaching children how to put words together to form complete, accurate sentences

  • Narrative Skills - Improving a child's ability to sequence ideas, retell events, and share cohesive stories

  • Critical Thinking - Strengthening advanced language skills such as inferencing and making predictions 

Social Communication

  • Joint Attention - Nurturing the ability to share a moment or interest with another person

  • Play & Engagement -  Developing the ability to share, take turns, and engage with a variety of toys and activities

  • Social Skills - Helping children navigate greetings, social cues, social rules, and new interactions

  • Self-Advocacy - Teaching children how to express their needs and boundaries

  • Conversation Skills - Building the knowledge and confidence to have meaningful conversations 

Literacy

  • Reading - Helping children master the essential building blocks, from blending letter sounds to reading full sentences with ease and comprehension

  • Spelling - Providing children with the tools they need to write and spell words correctly 

Swallowing

  • Dysphagia - Providing targeted intervention to support airway safety, enhance swallowing efficiency, and improve comfort during meals

  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) - Use of signs, symbols, or communication devices​​ to support and empower individuals with unique communication profiles

Initial Consultation 

Assessment 

Analysis

To understand your child's unique profile, our speech-language pathologists utilize a combination of clinical observations, standardized assessments, informal measures, as well as caregiver reports.

Goal Setting

This introductory appointment allows our clinical team to get to know you and your child. During this time, we gather essential information about your child's medical and developmental history, alongside relevant family background. We also discuss your child's strengths, interests, and your primary areas of concern. This information guides the assessment process. 

Following the assessment, the speech-language pathologist will analyze the results to identify your child's strengths and areas of need, highlighting any communication differences or delays that would benefit from targeted support. This information is used to develop a tailored intervention plan.

Together, we will review the assessment results and clinical recommendations, ensuring you have ample opportunity to ask questions. From there, we will develop a customized intervention plan by setting specific therapy goals as well as establishing the optimal frequency and duration for your child's sessions.
