Paediatric Literacy Intervention
Developing literacy skills today for a brighter tomorrow!
At Thrive Speech Therapy Centres, we support school-aged children who are experiencing difficulty with reading and spelling acquisition. We utilize the Orton-Gillingham method in conjunction with other evidence-based strategies aligned with the Science of Reading. Every child's literacy journey is unique; that is why we build skills step by step using systematic, explicit instruction and multisensory learning.

Our Approach
Learning to read is a complex process. That is why we utilize evidence-based methods aligned with the Science of Reading. Delivered in a small-group format, the structure of our sessions is designed using Scarborough’s Reading Rope. At the core of our program is the Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach—an explicit, systematic, multisensory teaching method that breaks reading and spelling down into manageable, logical steps. Our goal is to build a holistic skill set so children no longer have to focus on how to read, allowing them to focus on what they are reading—opening up a world of learning, imagination, and success!

Our literacy sessions are designed for school-aged children:
-
whose literacy skills are below grade-level and/or age-level expectations
-
who have a specific learning disorder with impairment in reading
-
who have a specific learning disorder with impairment in written expression
-
with unique learning profiles

Assessment
Analysis
Following the assessment, the professional will analyze the results to identify your child's strengths and needs, highlighting any gaps in foundational reading and spelling skills that require targeted support. This information is used to place your child in the appropriate small group.
Small Group
This introductory appointment allows us to get to know you and your child. We gather essential information regarding your child's developmental, medical, academic, and family history. We also discuss your child's strengths, interests, and your primary areas of concern to help guide the assessment process.
To understand your child's unique literacy profile, our professionals utilize a mix of observations, screeners, assessments, and reports.
After reviewing the results together and answering any questions you may have, we place your child in a small learning group of no more than 3 children with similar skill levels.
8 Sessions
Your child will complete 8 structured literacy sessions designed to support their ongoing reading and spelling development.
